Laser ETching / Laser Marking
Laser Etching is a process by which the outer layer of a metal substrate undergoes vaporizing.
Also known as laser marking, this process delivers little to no depth being removed from the part, yet provides a high contrast marking – easily visible to the naked eye if desired. The medical industry requires such marking for tracking, customer information and part numbers.
Techmetals has the capability to even etch info small enough to fit on the head of a screw, or smaller. Conversely, this process differs from cutting, which actually “cuts into” the base metal.
Since an etcher only changes the surface of the substrate, it alters its reflectivity to achieve results. Laser etching only removes 0.001″ or less material and is popular with a variety of metal surfaces. For example, laser etching is common seen on anodize or plated metals, polymers and even ceramics.
Contact Techmetals today for large quantity, laser marking projects. Our certified team ensures quick turnaround for etching a variety of metal alloys.
Benefits of Laser Marking:
- High contrast marking with minimal damage to substrate
- Markings small enough to fit on head of a screw, large enough to view with the naked eye
- Available for most anodize or plated metals
Etching Properties:
- THICKNESS:
.001″ or less removal of material from base
